Get In Get Happy

The ad I am going to talk about is the “Get in Get Happy” Volkswagen Beetle commercial. In it, many people are depicted as sad or disgruntled about many things (Mondays, vending machines, bad sales figures, or being late), and then a 2013 Beetle owner preaching the good word and happiness in a Jamaican accent (reminiscent of Bob Marley who spoke of happiness and being carefree).
I feel it has targeted younger people that are just entering the workforce or just entering their final occupations because of the care free vibe and message sent with the ad. The message is aimed at young people who still have trouble coming into work because they are not use to work yet, and also because younger people have been pressured with change of having to work or school, and especially with the politics from the past election and are more use to a laid back kind of care free thinking. This I believe then draws in that particular demographic into the actual product being sold which is a small car that is not intended for a family and is trying to come off as a brand new and different Beetle than before.
I believe that this commercial chose to tell people about the brand and spread the “Think good, do good” message at the Super Bowl because many young people watch the game not necessarily for the game but for the so popular funny ads. As I said before it is a very popular message to be sending at this time so I believe that it was very successful at getting the message across, and can do so all year round, not just on that Sunday night.
I loved this ad because it held true to the precedent set by the “Wassup” Budweiser ads of the late 90s and early 2000's. It was simple comedy and got those watching to at least chuckle. This was something that has been lost in many of the newer ads, and is the main reason people love these new and expensive thirty second ads. I think it was very successful at getting its message across and staying with the spirit of the ads.

  1. I really enjoyed the Volkswagen commercial that aired during the Super Bowl. I thoroughly enjoyed the line-up and variety of all the commercials that aired last Sunday. I have been a little disappointed in the past few years with the commercials that premiered on Super Bowl Sunday. There were many funny ones, but the Volkswagen advertisement was one of my favorites. I find Jamaican accents very amusing and to be great for comedy purposes. The way the company crafted this commercial, I feel, was very well done and it caught the attention of millions of people with its humor. Now, people will be talking about this ad along with searching it on YouTube and tweeting about it on Twitter for a long time. They can also use this commercial in the future because it was not really related to the Super Bowl. The company really nailed this advertisement and I’m sure their sales will see some increase from it.
