Zack, I find it very interesting that the business started out as an LLC, and then changed to a sole proprietorship. I would think that the switch would go the other way, in order to gain more security, and not be tied to their business financially. It is also cool that she owned a small business as well as the massage place. That does not seem like the two would be related so it must be very hard to run both. I go to a chiropractor in this area, and have been thinking of going to a massage place, so I would be a person that would be a potential client. Working too much will make very much sense, because she runs two businesses! The competition not being much may be because of the area that she is located in, which is great! I find it strange that she wants to add clientele, but not employees. The more customers you have, the more help you would need.
Zack, I also find it very interesting how your business could change to a sole proprietorship, because that would be a big change for a company. It was nice to learn about how this lady owns her own business's and how she is able to keep both business's running. I learned a decent amount from this presentation and it all relates to certain business aspects we have learned in class. Watching this slideshow and reading it, it made me want to get a massage for some reason. I also love how she is trying to expand her business's and she is sticking to what she believes will work and her gut instinct. Experience in any business is very important and since she has over 20 years of this in her field, this is why she is going to be successful. I bet in this field it is very hard to attract cliental especially if you are not in the right location, so it is understanding that she struggled when starting these business's.
It’s very interesting on how this business as change in such a few years. The big change from an LLC to a sole proprietorship. This must have been to get more security and feel more conferrable with the financial situation of the company. I think one of the biggest benefits going for the company is the amount of experience that she brings to it. 20 years, wow. At this point she is probably one of the top experts in the area in her field of work. Some of the challenges they the company faces seems pretty hard to deal with but as long as she gives it her all there is no reason why the company cannot continue to be a success. But I kind of find it weird how she doesn’t want to hire any new employees. In the future if she wants to expand her client base she is probably going to need new employees to help with the workload.
Zach, First off, I really enjoyed your powerpoint. I definitely consider massage therapy to be a healing profession. My mom has a bad back and neck as a result of a car accident that she was in when I was a baby. She seeks massage therapy every few weeks and is always amazed by the results. I found it interesting that the owner went from owning her own restaurant to seeking a business in massage therapy. I also find it interesting that she has gained many clients mainly through word of mouth; that really says something about her business! I learned that even though you may have one career, you may realize that your calling lies in another career and that it’s okay to completely change directions. The text states, “Successful entrepreneurs typically have confidence in their own ability to achieve, and their confidence encourages them to act boldly” (103). The owner must have been confident in her ability to heal people through massage therapy and therefore, she acted boldly in her decision to change directions in her field of business.
