Joe's Super Bowl Commercial Choice

My favorite super bowl (XXLVII)commercial was definitely the 2013Hyundai Santa Fe Ad. It is about a boy throwing his football up into the air. Out of nowhere the average bully grabs it from him with his friends. The bully tells him if he wants to play he needs to get a team together to play them. He runs home to get his mom and the next scene they are in her Hyundai Santa Fe and she drives him from one friend’s house to the other to get them. Each friend is doing something amazingly strong or grown up like a man would do. The first two are lifting massive amounts of weights. The next is welding in a factory. After him is a boy wrestling a full grown angry bear and he has complete control over the bear. Lastly he picks up his friend who is carrying a fully grown man out of a burning building. After they are all loaded up in the car the mom drives them to the field. The bully throws the ball at one of them and tells them to kick off. The ball immediately comes back to the bully super-fast and knocks him out of the screen because it was thrown at him so hard from one of the boys.

I really enjoyed this commercial. I found it funny, relatable, but at the same time unrealistic. It is a typical bully takes down scenario where the kid gathers his friends together in his moms’ car and wins against the bad guy (bully). I also thought it was a clever commercial for the Hyundai Santa Fe because it shows the amount of room the vehicle has and can hold. It was clearly meant to appeal to parents. More specifically it was meant to appeal to parents who have either many children, car pool, or help bring kids to games or school. They portrayed the vehicle to be efficient and helpful for any situation a parent would come across.

  1. Joe, I thought this ad was really well thought out. After watching it a bunch of times I found it to be really funny. This commercial really does relate to parents mostly soccer moms. Also if a kid is watching it they are most likely going to their mom on to get it because they want to be like the kids in the commercial. I thought it was pretty unrealistic as well but it did the job and grasped your attention. I also found the ad really easy to fallow the first time, as some other commercials make no sense. I think Hyundai did a good job on targeting parents by choosing to show this ad during the Super bowl because on Super bowl Sunday parents are either going to be on the couch right in front of the television or close by in the kitchen. I think I enjoyed this ad and the super bowl just as much as you did.

  2. Joe, I really enjoyed the commercial that you chose to share with us. I did not come across this one in the few moments that I actually did watch the game. I am always one to fall for anything that involves a little sense of humor, and this one really hit the spot. Every part of the commercial gives you a quick laugh and makes you want to see what the next boy is doing. My interest kept growing as the boy who was being bullied recruited friends who were weightlifting, welding, wrestling a bear and then saving a person from a fire. The commercial gets right to the point at the end as it wants you to know that you are able to fit an army of children in this very shiny brand new vehicle. Not only was the commercial humorous, but there was a nice story line to it. The boy who is bullied at first gets his redemption when he returns with his group of friends to take on his enemies on the football field. The way he fired the ball at his opponent tells you the good kids will win the game.
