Super Bowl Commercial


Amy Poehler is a well-known actress and comedian by being in movies like Baby Mamma. In Best Buys 2013 Super Bowl commercial, they were smart enough to use somebody so well known by today's teenage and adult generation. The message portrayed in the ad was that any questions that you had shopping at Best Buy; they would listen to and answer as best they could.

The consumer needs that were expressed in the ad were the basic need of customer service, paying attention to what the customer wants or needs and helping them achieve that. 

I think that the target market was a young adult, since they are usually the ones now a days that would be buying electronics that are sold in Best Buy. They target this group by having Amy in the commercial since she is so well known by that age group. I think that couples in their young twenties may be watching the Super Bowl together, and maybe they are planning on moving in together, or they have already moved in together but they don't quite have the electronics that they want. The commercial could also be directed towards teenagers who are very needy and want their concerns to be listened to when going to buy the next big electronic device. This age group of teenagers or young adults would be targeted because they are the ones that are most likely to go and buy electronics. 

I think that the commercial is very effective at gaining the attention of the target audience because they use a famous actress that most people think is funny. This would grasp their attention to see what Amy does to amuse the audience in the commercial. The ad didn't present a call to action of the audience; however, at the end it did show a hash tag that was related to the commercial, which kind of is asking viewers to tweet about the ad. 

I liked that the ad had Amy Poehler and her comedy worked into the commercial. A famous face always makes a commercial more interesting to watch, especially if you like the person and what they do. The ad can definitely be used for other occasions then just the Super Bowl. The ad probably won't get me to go buy something at Best Buy, just because I don't really have the need to, and the commercial was focusing on the customers needs. However, it did show that Best Buy cares and deals with crazy questions like Amy's.

  1. Mandy,I thought this was a great ad to choose. After watching it a couple more times since I didn't remember what it was about I thought that it was hilarious. This commercial really does relate to people in a younger generation. Like how many kids these days always complain about not having the newest phone? Usually most of them do. Also, having a celebrity, especially someone as famous as Amy Poehler would make more people watch because she is very funny and people know who she is. This would allow the company to also grab at their target audience for using such a famous celebrity. I think that the use of the hash tag at the end is also another way that Best Buy can grab a large target audience because if people really liked the commercial and want to spread the word about it they can. When they do this more people could become interested in Best Buy. Overall I thought it was a very funny commercial that could be used at any time and I'm glad you chose to write about it.
