Sam, I think its really cool that you decided to do your presentation on you dad’s oil business. It makes sense to keep the business small he used sole proprietorship. His business must be pretty successful if he has been in the business for 20 years. I have always wondered how oil companies do it with this economy. This being said as we speak oil prices are increasing. I would assume there are a lot of competitors in this kind of business. In order to compete you have to have lower prices and some good customer service so the customers know whom to come back to. To keep the business small and effective I like that he uses word of mouth and business card as well as a small crew of employees. I like what he has planned for the future. Retiring and selling the business sound like a great plan to me.
It’s really cool that your dad works for himself. The fact that he was able to start it with his own money and has been able to keep it going for 20 years is extremely impressive, and it makes perfect sense why it is a sole proprietorship. It seems like he has found the one thing that can put him above his competitors, honesty and loyalty. Those things are what people really look for when they are picking who they are going to do business with. Hopefully he will be able to sustain the success he has had with all they challenges they are there and that are coming. With the prices of oil rising it is becoming more and more difficult for people to afford oil and they are becoming more conservative with what they have. This most come as a hit on the bottom line of the company. Hopefully this won’t affect the company to hard and the success can continue.
