Siobhan, I think it’s really cool that your family has its own business! I liked you power point overall; it provided a lot of great information. I think it’s great that the business has been around for so long, your father must really know what he’s doing! I also found it interesting that your dad had always dreamed of owning his own business, so once he got the money he just went for it; our country needs more people like that. I’m sure there are a lot of people out there that have similar dreams but are simply too afraid to pursue them. Now I have more of an understanding as to why entrepreneurs love what they do. Your father really seems to enjoy pleasing his customers and putting smiles on their faces more than anything. The text states on being an entrepreneur, “You are the only one who is ultimately responsible for your success or failure” (101). Your father, when asked about the critical success factors, mentioned that he must work a lot of hours, which consist of not only field work but also paper work, and that it’s all on him. In other words, he knows he is fully responsible for what needs to get done in order to be successful.
Siobhan, I think it is great that you were able to interview your dad about his business! He seems very successful considering he has been in business for 20 years. It’s great that he followed his dream of someday owning his own business. Having 15 years of experience is helpful in starting a business. It is also cool that he started the business with the money he saved up over the years. I like the fact that as a business owner, he takes the initiative to satisfy the customers. He will personally sit down and speak to the customers to find out how to satisfy them. I believe this is a great way to keep customers satisfied and in turn may help the business. Word of mouth is a great way to market your business and obtain customers so by satisfying your current customers, this can help your business in the long run! It seems like a successful business!
Siobhan, I like how its a family business. The business is a success due to the owner. It is a success because its all for the customers and your dad also looks out for its own employees. Its a good strategy to work outside the saratoga springs while everyone works within. Focusing on customer satisfaction is a good strategy as well. Hiring qualified and hardworking employees is great. I like how your dad loves what he does, thats why his business is a success. “what ever business you get into, make sure it is a job you love and enjoy!”. There is no other way of doing business.
Hey Siobhan, That’s great that your daddy David installs glass windows and glass doors! From personal experience, I always have fun doing it. Its good money to get into! Twenty Years is a long time as well. Cootoes to your father doing a solo proprietorship it takes a lot of work running a business! He has a great idea working in other places besides Saratoga because of all of the other organizations. It might be a good idea if he expands, pick up a few more employees and boom, he can make a franchise. I also agree with the theme of not giving up and pursuing my dreams. I want to follow in the footsteps of the dreams and aspirations of your father by pursuing my own goals and not letting anything hold me back from achieving them. Your blog was inspirational and very motivational. I have learned a lot about your father’s business and I was moved.
